Alice & McLean
A Dutch – American (or should I say, Texan?) wedding on the 4th of July in the heart of Amsterdam – sounds like a great mix of elements in one wedding, and that certainly turned out to be true!
McLean and Alice are an American / Dutch couple currently living in Houston, Texas but they have an Amsterdam history as well. They decided to get married here, and not just on any day but on the 4th of July. Of course, both families and friends from the Netherlands and the US (and other places as well) were there to celebrate this great moment with them.
The ceremony (and formals) took place in the Oude Kerk, a fantastic and beautiful church in the middle of the center and the oldest building in the city (the original structure dates back to 1306). After the ceremony – which made things official according to US law – things got very Amsterdam-ish due to the fact McLean paddled Alice on a bike to the lovely Tolhuis (on the other side of the IJ river, meaning we took the 2-minute ferry that links Central Station to Amsterdam North).
Here at this venue the rest of the day was spent with the reception, some great speeches, food and of course a big party. As an extra, we also set up a small photo booth for which I thank Inez very much for helping me out.
McLean and Alice, thanks for having me there and a very big congratulations!
